Family Quilts

“Family Quilts” was created from a compilation of handmade quilts made by a grandmother who gifted them to each family member throughout the years.
I delivered this commissioned watercolour to the family in their new home. As the painting was revealed, there was a moment of stillness and then emotion and tears set in. I witnessed the nostalgia they felt and the memories it brought up. I watched their family reconnect over these quilts that had been in their lives from childhood. It was profound to see how my painting could transcend a physical beauty to a deeper emotional and spiritual beauty. This is why I create.
I felt honoured to be the catalyst for the culmination and commemoration of that family’s past and to bring it into their brand new home, to create new memories in their next chapter of life.
